Purchased six months ago. Not blowing cold. Fuse #6, 30 amp, intact. Could swear I hear the compressor going on and off when I turn the A/C on and off, but no dice. Over-the-counter bottle Freon 134A, and dispenser/nozzle/measure gauge purchased. When connected, engine running, AC switch depressed, fan on full, getting high pressure reading which I am led to believe indicates the compressor is not compressing. What is next to check?

Best option would be to put a real set of gauges on it and see what those say, then check for power/ground at the compressor clutch while the system is on. If it has the "climatronic" system of automatic controls you will need the VW specific scan tool to do further testing.
