1993 Volkswagen Eurovan air conditioner freezing up

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan mileage: 155,000. My car has a problem with repeated air conditioning compressor freeze ups. It gets burnt then makes the serpentine belt snap rendering the van without alternator and power steering or brakes. It has been repaired four times and nobody can do it correctly. Can you help?

The expansion valve may be malfunctioning causing high pressure in the air conditioning system. This results in overworking of the compressor. Also, check the cooling fans for the condenser. If those are not working, that will also cause a high-pressure situation.
