Clutch would not engage. So I added a little Freon. The gauge says full, now the clutch kicks on and off every five seconds or so. Still just hot air.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

If the clutch is cycling very quickly, it is most likely the result of low Freon or a bad pressure switch. What I really need you to do is get an AC manifold gauge kit. It shows actual pressures on both the high and low sides. That is what we need to know.

The reason is because you may have enough Freon in it, but there could be other things not allowing the compressor to function. Here is a link which discusses different reasons why it may not be working:

Here is a link which shows an AC manifold kit being used and how to vacuum and recharge the system:

One last thing, here is a link which shows how to recharge the system using a basic product from the parts store. Check it out to see if there is anything that is helpful.

As far as the problem, if the pressure in the system is too low, the compressor will not turn on. If it border line too low, often times it will cycle as you described. If the pressure switch is bad, it can do the same.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to ask other questions or let me know if you need help. If you get both pressures, let me know what they are.

Take care,
Joe
