My car has suddenly gotten about 100 less miles per tank of gas. 11 gallon tank. I recently changed oil and spark plugs. There was oil on the spark plugs so I replace the valve cover gasket. Air filter has less than 10,000 miles on it. I was told might be worn piston rings. Does this sound possible?

It may be many things. I'd make sure you have the proper heat range spark plugs in the vehicle. I'd also check timing marks (mechanical and timing). Check for vacuum leaks, MAP sensor, the rest of the tune-up items (fuel filter, spark plug wires, cap/rotor), oxygen sensor, etc. There are many possibilities.

Thanks for the response. I figured that there wasn't a simple answer. So, if I can get pointed in the right direction on what things to check and what are the most likely causes I should be able to find the problem.
