I had pep boys check the battery and the alternator. It was the battery that was bad and I got it replaced. Car starts up so much better now. Just surprised the battery had enough power with no jump to start up again after being dead.

I recently had to change my starter due to damage on the ignition harness connector on the starter housing. No big deal. Having the battery cables disconnected while removing the starter I noticed the battery was swollen on the sides so I replaced that as well. Now I am unable to start my vehicle with the key in the cranking position. I have to put the key in the on position and jump the starter to the battery. I changed the starter relay and I have voltage to the relay. It has a factory security system and a factory radio. Any advise would be tremendously helpful.

Check fuses in fuse panel under hood and under drivers dash. Especially chech fuses with clear windows in engine compartment fuse box. Easy to see if they are blown. Probably blew a fuse with original starter problem. Check for voltage on small wire to starter solenoid when turning key to start. Connect test light to positive terminal on battery and check engine ground lug around starter. If it lights then you have a good ground.

Thanks for the reply. All fuses good, starter relay replaced, power going to it and the relay is physically clicking when the key is turned to crank. Voltage present at the starter ignition wire. Would it be possible that the factory security system disabled the ignition at the key. If so would I be able to reset it without visiting the dealer. I have the factory key fob, just need to put a battery in it.

If relay is clicking and voltage at solenoid activation wire on the starter has voltage when key is turned to crank then it should spin over fine. Still think you have a fuse link bad or burnt. Or your starter solenoid is no good.
