Engine won't turn over - no starter operation

Drove two days ago, fine. Tried to start today. Won't turn over, then sounds like battery is dead. Tried to jump, didn't work. Battery, post, alternator all replaced in September 2019. Oil changed as well. We replaced everything because battery kept draining. Seems the problem has come back. Any clues?

Sorry it's taking so long to get back to you. We took the battery and had it checked. It was dead. They gave us a new one. After hooking it up, the engine still wouldn't turn over. We are going to wait until my husband comes home in two weeks to check the alternator. I will let you know what happens. (Just in case there is a drain on the battery we don't know about we unhooked it)

Hi. Yes the starter engages but doesn't turn over. There was a main fuse that we thought was the problem, but after replacing it, still nothing. My husband also replaced the fuel filter. Nothing. My husband is going to try a few more things before we bring it to the shop. I think he said something about the spark plugs? I've given him this thread so he can comment, if that's okay?

My car is a 2000 Toyota Solara with about 190000 miles on it. The car battery light came on yesterday, but it still drove fine for the next 10 miles I drove it that day. Today, it started fine, but on my way to work the RPM meter started moving erratically between 0 and 4000. While trying to at least get it to my work's parking lot, I noticed that the RPMs only behaved oddly while I pressed on the brake or turned on anything electrical like the radio, blinkers, lights, etc. The time display on the dash would also darken like it was losing power. This also occurred while in reverse, which I tested in the parking lot, when I finally made it to work. The car drives fine with no stuttering or shutting off, just RPMs now go straight to zero when in reverse or using the brakes or electrical systems. The battery and alternator were replaced 7-8 months before when the voltage regulator died and fried the old alternator. Now the car will only start when it is jumped off, then it works fine apart from the RPM and electrical issues. I had my battery checked today and it was only 16% dead which I was told was fine. The alternator was tested and in working order as well. I really need help solving this, as my best guess would be that the wires leading from the starter to the battery are the problem.

My husband replaced the spark plugs because he saw there was no spark. Still wouldn't start. He already replaced the main fuse, nothing. Then he replaced the electrical fuse and the car started. So kinda weird. The radio still won't work, but that is not a worry right now. Just glad to have it running again for my son. Thank you so much for your help. I'll keep you informed if something goes wrong, but fingers crossed.

Hi, thank you for the response. I checked the wires and fuses, all were secure with no fuses blown. The battery terminal were relatively clean of corrosion, but I went ahead and wiped them down and reattached. The car will start with a jump still, but now it will slowly start to sputter and then shut off under stress. Also, a sound started around where the exhaust pipe (I think) connects to the engine manifold. Upon checking, it seems to shake as if loose. Would this be the cause of the engine shutting off, or is it definitely electrical?

Sound like you have a loose connection some where possible to ground. However all wiring connection need to be check. Also check all fuses for loose are not seated correctly.

So I got into a fight with my twin brother and weve been pulling pranks on eachother to **** eachother off. I have a 99 toyota solara. First let me say I do NOT no much about cars. I was heading out this weekend and my car wouldnt start, I popped the hood and realized one part of the battery hookup was lifted off the battery. Simple fix, just flipped it back on and it started right up. Now I went to the car this morning and I put the key in, the seatbelt light turned on but when I cranked it it didnt turn. I check the battery, it was fine. What other simple things could stop a car from turning over. (My brother wouldnt do something to destroy my car) or a difficult or expensive fix! But little things/easy to fix things like the battery are what im trying to figure out. Could there be another simple wire unplugged, a fuze released? I dont no. Any help is appriciated.

My car wouldn't start the other night and was just making a loud and fast clicking sound when turning the key. I decided to wait til morning to get the issue fixed and then it started the next morning? I figured it was just a bad battery but now it started again so I'm not sure. Also a month back the engine randomly shut off while I was driving but it immediately started back up again when I turned the key. Thanks
