I think it could be something with the electronic brake force distribution

Are they push in or spin type pistons? Are yoy unsing the correct tool?
Were the pads metal to metal on that side?

They are push in pistons and I haven't had problems when previously replacing them using a small vice (probably not the right tool) to push back the piston. The pads were metal to metal on only that side when I replaced them.
