ENGINE OVERHEATING

Did you replace the thermostat? As far as the head gasket, have you checked to see if the coolant is mixing with the engine oil? Have you had to add coolant? Are there any leaks you see on driveway or do you smell coolant while driving? And finally, do you get good heat, how long does it take to overheat, is it the same as it was prior to replacing the radiator?

My van just started to overheat. I checked fluid level and it is full. With heater running on full, it runs cooler when I sitting still than when I am moving. Any ideas?

With the heater on, the heater core acts like a small radiator helping to cool the coolant.

Does the car only overheat when sitting still? If so, is the cooling fan coming on? Also if it overheats at anytime, have you tried replacing the thermostat or flushing the cooling sustem?

Let me know.

My sedona drives with no problem commuting locally, however the heating takes long to heat up.

But when driven on the motorway for longer journeys, it heats up and stops accelerating for certain intervals, then I have to pull over to allow to cool before driving again?

Please help!

First. Make sure the coolant is full. The fact that it takes long for heat makes me believe the thermostat is sticking. That is where I would start. Replace it and at the same time, flush the cooling system.

Let me know if this helps.

If there is oil in your radiator that indicates a big problem. If the oil only appears to be in the overflow tank then was the cap on did you spill some in there or is it road grime?

A crack in the head gasket or less commonly the engine block will allow oil to pass to the cooling system. Check you oil level to see if excessive oil has disappeared. Try and get some of the coolent out of the tank for a better view. It always looks dark in the radiator. There is usually some oily veins that appear darker on close inspection. If your engine is running the oil may produce dark bubbles in your radiator during turbulence.

Good luck. If you think it's still oil, get someone else to look at it.

Conversley - check your oil for radiator fluid on the dip stick. Always a good idea to change the oil to be safe.

Have you checked the coolant level? It sounds low.

Check that and let me know what you find.
