I live in the midwest, so I didn't use my A/C the whole winter. When I tried to use it the other day, it didn't work. I didn't even get the associated drop in engine RPM's when the system is working. I checked the fuses in the interior fuse box, and the fuse box in the engine compartment. Aside from some prongs (or maybe blades?) Having a burned look to them, all associated fuses were intact. Next, I checked the relays in the engine bay. When I swapped the A/C Relay with the Condesor Fan Relay 1, I noticed the engine RPM's would increase 75-100rpm's when I would manually engage the A/C switch, but no cold air.

My A/C switch has a green light on it that illuminates when I manually depress it. It will also automatically illuminate when I switch the Air Flow selector to De-Fog. It will still illuminate when I manually depress it, but when I switch the Air Selector to De-Fog, it remains dark if I do not manually depress it.

One other thing: After I swapped the relays, I bought a new one for the relay I believe had malfunctioned. I turned the A/C system on, the engine RPM's bumped up about 75-100rpms, but after a few minutes, something started squealing and it immediately stopped when I turned the A/C system off.

(If it helps, I just had the belts on my car changed last month)

I am trying to trouble shoot and cover all bases here before I take it to a mechanic and shell out some $$$.

Thanks in advance!

Doug

This is where I would start. You need sufficient pressure to close the low pressure switch to turn on compressor
