I have a 2000 Mercury cougar. I tried to start it tonight, but it wouldn't start. For the last 2 weeks I've had to jump the battery to get the car started. It ran fine after a jump from the battery charger. Last night I decided to add a carburetor cleaner solution into the gas tank. After I pumped the gas I added the solution and it ran fine. Today I put a new battery in the car and it ran fine. This evening I went to start the car but it wouldn't start. I pumped the gas peddle a bunch of times to see if it was getting fuel. I didn't smell fuel, so I opened the hood to see if the throttle cable was working properly and it was fine. I went online for trouble shooting the problem and it was suggested that I check the fuel pump fuse in the power distribution box. Unfortunately, I don't have a light tester to see weather or not the fuse is blown. I don't know much about cars but I know it could be several things. The power pump could be bad. The fuel filter could be clogged. A fuse might have blown or adding the carburetor cleaner was a bad idea and caused the problem. I'm really not sure. I believe you can help me find what the problem could be and make some suggestions as to resolving this issue. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, David
