Ive been trying to find my answers to my malibu's problems, and ive seen lots of overheating issues with the 00 malibu. There is a problem with the fan--im not sure if it was actually recalled--but you might want to google it. Our cap is bad and that will make you lose coolant too!

I have a 2000 chevy malibu with 188200 miles, 3.1L v6 w/ automatic transmission. My car started to leak antifreez, I found the leak coming from the water pump. I had the cooling system flushed before I replaced it like the install instructions said. Also replaced the thermstat. Now my car started to over heat. Next, I replaced the radiator had the system flushed again, I checked the fans and they come on ok but, it still gets hot. I' ve never had any major breakdown before. What elese could be wrong? This one has me stumped. I'm used to working with old chevys (68 to 72 novas) they had no electronics like todays cars. Any help would be appricated

Try bleeding the cooling system out see below don't work we'll go the whole 9 yds to find it.

White smoke coming out of the tail pipe?

Always bleed air from cooling system after replacing coolant. Set heater for maximum heat. Remove radiator cap. Loosen drain plug and remove drain bolt (if equipped) from engine block. Drain coolant reservoir. Fill coolant reservoir to MAX mark with 50/50 water-coolant mixture. Loosen bleed bolt and fill radiator up to base of filler neck. Close bleed bolt when coolant flows out without bubbles. Tighten bleed bolt. With radiator cap removed, start and operate engine to normal operating temperature. Add coolant if necessary and check for leaks.
