You need to start with checking for stored fault codes in the engine computer.

If codes are present, post them here.

Gas or TDi?

Could be:

- fuel pump
- fuel pump relay
- ECM relay
- crankshaft position sensor
- fuel filter
etc.

When it does not start, does it crank ok?

- do you have spark?
- injector pulse?
- does the check engine light come ON when the key is in the ON position?
