I have a 99 1500 suburban 5.7 It turns over but will not start. Just did a full tune up.(Plugs, wires, rotor, cap). It was running fine the day before. Now it just wont start. Battery has been replaced and alternator is good. It sounds like it wants to start but then just shuts down.

Check that you have fuel pressure and a good spark, check for any fault codes, I feel it will be something simple, let me know what you find.

I am going to check fuel pressure and spark. If I have both then what could be the cause? Could you give me a good checklist to run through? Coil? Fuel pressure regulator? Could it be the oil pressure censor failing causing it to shut down? I just checked fuel pressure and replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, wires a week ago. It was running rough, and backfiring and that fixed the problem and got rid of all the codes. Fuel pressure was great and the pump is not that old. I know that could be the culprit but would be strange considering.

The engine only has 40k on it. It was running great the day before. Went to start it and found a dead battery. Replaced the battery and it turns over well, begins to fire up and then shuts down. Happens almost instantly. Alternator is good. So not sure what caused the battery to die.

Your fuel pressure should be 60-66 psi. If not you may need a fuel pump. Your truck falls unde the years of a poor wiring harness. They were not the bestonesand gavethe same indication of a bad fule pump. When you get a new pump it has a different connector and a 12" harness should be included to wireit in. On your second answer you didn't say what your fuel pressure was. You can'tuse the finger test on these models
