I was driving this morning and suddenly my 1998 honda civic stuttered a bit and then shut off. I am able to start the car and let it sit in idle, so it's not the battery and it's not out of gas. But when I put the car in drive and put my foot on the gas, the car moves forward then stutters and dies again. What is causing it to fail?

Is the Check Engine Light indicating?
It could be anything from a bad fuel pump to a faulty wiring circuit. You need to diagnose and identify the cause before proceeding with rectification.

Get the fuel pump and pressure checked for a start.

How do you know it is not for this issue? CEL can be for any issues.

What trouble codes do you have?

When was the scanning done?

Get it done again. New codes causing the problem could have been stored or is indicating.
