1997 Dodge Ram wont start

I changed the fuel pump on my 97 dodge 1500 the fuel pump is kicking on but truck wont start is there something I am missing to do.

Could use a lot more information. Why did you replace the fuel pump? Were you having the same problem with the old one? Have you checked for spark? When are you expecting the fuel pump to run, all the time the ignition switch is on or just for one second after turning it on?

The old pump stopped working and yes I understand the pump don`t stay on constantly after the key is turned it cycles on that's all. What I don` t understand the new pump is definitely cycling on but truck wont start

Have you checked for spark?

One percent of no-starts are caused by no spark. One percent are caused by no fuel pressure. 98 percent of no-starts are caused by no fuel pressure AND no spark. That's why it's important to not get hung up on the first thing you find missing. You must check for both.

That should have been automatic. The pump runs during engine rotation, (cranking or running), and the fuel and air would go through the regulator and back into the tank within a few seconds. Regardless, I'm happy it's running.
