My 96 jimmy has a 4.3 v 6 4x4 when lm driving along the rpmms starts going up and down the lights will get really bright and my battery is above 18v then it will start chuggin like it looses power and wants to die out. After it does that it shifts really hard into really hard into second gear and whiens out in first. I have chsnged the altinator, spark plugs and wires, rotor and distributor, fuel pump and air filter nothing seems to make a differance.

Follow the "R" wire away from the alternator. At its end there is a fusible link (looks like just an enlargement of the wire diameter). With the engine running and the headlights on, wiggle that fusible link to see if it has an effect on the brightness on the lights and the other symptoms you named. If so, there is abad connection and the link will need to be replaced.

Also make sure that your battery terminals anre clean and well connected to the battery.
