The E4DO is a computerized transmission you'll have to retrieve codes before I can assist.

RETRIEVING CODES
Service codes are retrieved from EEC-IV system through self-test connector. Various methods and test equipment may be used to access these codes:

Analog Volt-Ohmmeter (VOM)
Scan Tester
In-Dash Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) or CHECK ENGINE light STAR Series Tester
DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) LOCATIONS
Application Location
Bronco & "F"Series Left Front Inner Fender Panel"E" Series Right Front Inner Fender Panel

If you have no codes is not the transmission. Have you checked your use joints in your driveline? What about the rear end? How much backlash is in the gears?
