When I try to start my car half the time it starts fine but the other half it turns over but won't start. It takes me about 4 tries to get it to start, usually while pumping the gas a bit. Is this the fuel pump? What else could be wrong?

Hello,

It sounds like you might have worn igniting components.
Possibly worn spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor etc.
Inspect the spark plugs for ware and gap. It should be gapped at 0.039-0.043 in. (1.0-1.1 mm).
Check for carbon build up on the plugs, also look for oil fouling. Dirty plugs will be inefficient to start the vehicle.
If it has not been done in a while, might be a good idea to do a tune up.
A basic tune includes; changing the oil, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor. Also cleaning out the throttle body.

Here is a helpful tune up guide:

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
