Is it possible to convert an in tank fuel pump to an external fuel pump? Will the external pump suck the fuel from the existing tank? Just replaced the motor and the fuel pump is starving for fuel. We only recommend direct fit parts. However, yes, you can convert it to an external electric fuel pump. But, you need to make sure it is wired into the present power supply. The vehicle is designed to shut the fuel down if there is a major accident or a roll over.

Is there a reason you don't want to replace the present pump? That is what I would recommend.
