My vehicle has problems starting. Only after multiple attempts (5+), it starts.I took it to a place (Midas), where I was told it was the crank and cam sensors. I was told after they are replaced it would start. The charge would be $800.00 (parts/labor).I replaced my crank position sensor as well as both cams, myself (to save money), but I am having the same problem, except now it won’t turn over at all. What did I do wrong? I ordered the right parts. When I try to start it, nothing happens, but when I remove the key, I hear clicking.

Good afternoon,

Is the battery fully charged?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

Did the car have any codes?

Any other work done to the car?

I had the battery tested, it is at 72%.
As far as codes I took it to Midas, I have the paperwork of what they said the car needed. As far as other work done. I can’t say as it is a used car.

Got it.

I see what they recommended but how did they come to the conclusions? Were there codes set?

Sounds like they are guessing.

Roy, you may be right. They never showed codes but were eager to get $800.00 from me. I ordered the parts by the sku’s they provided so I changed them myself. Going to plug in the OBD then see what it tells me.

Help! What is this part called? I discovered it is cracked (and possibly the reason) my Xterra won’t crank.
Camshaft bank 1 (passenger side).

That picture looks like the cam sensor and it came apart.

The fact you have both cam and crank sensor codes tells me to have you check the timing chain. These usually set when they are not aligned when cranking.

I would do a compression test to be sure.
