my brake warning lamp comes on but never stays on it just stays on for a few seconds and then goes off

You are low on brake fluid. 2 things to do. Make sure that you don't have any leaks in the brake hydraulics. If there is no leak, pull front tires and check you brake pads. They may be thinning enough to lower the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir, thus setting the low level sensor light.
