I OWN A 98 PONTIAC GRANDPRIX GT. The car has 115k runs and starts great but recently I car will start and drive about a mile then with no warning car dies out and will crank but no start. Let it sit about 5 min. And with a litlle holding the accelerator pedal to the floor and letting off the starts to chug and does start then after seems fine? Also this last time the tach didnt work until I got home turned car off then restarted no problem and tach worked! ANY EXPERIENCED TECHS ADVICE IS VERY APPRECIATED! Im a 33yr old with yrs of automechanics and have never ran across this! Im thinkin fuel pump or computer problem. Thanks again

I think we can easily narrow it down if you had someone to help you crank while you check for spark, I was thinking fuel at first but when you said the tach went haywire too at an instance it made me think the crank position sensor may be faulty or both fuel and the crank sensor. But like I said, we can narrow it down if we can get someone to help you crank when you have one of those no start situations. As you know, those are the first things we need to check spark and fuel pressure.
