I am on a road trip and lost my key. I had a new one cut that did not have a microchip. It has been starting my engine and working perfectly until now, and I left stranded unable to start my vehicle and am not sure why.

This doesn't make sense simply because the key that doesn't have a chip should have never worked. The fact that it did work is odd however, now that it is not working again, is what I would expect to happen, so we need to ignore the fact that it was working and get a key that has a chip and program it.

We can start with pulling codes if you are close to a parts store and can get the vehicle there, they will pull them for free.

However, if you can't pull codes or there are no codes then the simplest solution is to call a locksmith and have them come out and they will be able to cut and program a key for you where the vehicle is.

Otherwise, we are going to have to tow it to a shop that can do this.

Please let me know what questions you have on this.

Thanks
