Looking at possible engine swaps for the future, will a 2gr fit a 2005 mark x that had a 3gr in it? Or will it need new mounts etc, installed?

Well, they were sold with 2,3,4 and 5G engines from the factory but in different world markets. So there are parts out there to do the swap, you just have to find them.
Clearly we are going to have to work through the common things like mounting it and the transmission. But the other major things to think about are electronics and wiring.

Yea, i'm pretty sure the transmission is the same 6 speed a/t, so if it fits on the mounts already installed just a much easier conversion.

It should be, the catch will be the electronics as those are a bit different between the engines. That is the big thing with engine swaps anymore, the electronics don't work.

Was wondering if I would need new sensors. I know it would need a CPU.

If you can it would be easier to find a complete car with the 2GR and then you would have all the parts handy. You want the engine, transmission and ECM to match at least. That makes it easier. Or look to see if there is a stand alone PCM that works for the swap.
