Hi, I had to film this because I don't know how to explain this. There is actually a sound when I press the brakes. Can you please identify what it is?

Hi,

First, please understand this model isn't offered in the US, so I don't have a manual for it. However, I will try my best to help.

I certainly hear something. By chance, do you feel the pedal vibrate? Listening to the video, which is what I think. Is the ABS light on? When this happens, does it seem to prevent you from pushing harder on the pedal to stop faster?

One other question. Did I hear tires skidding?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi. Yes, the pedal vibrates, and no ABS lights on. You can hear it screeching because I was pressing hard and was also doing a brake test to demonstrate.

Hi,

Based on your description, it sounds like the ABS system is actuating when it shouldn't. Often times this is caused by a faulty wheel speed sensor. If you know someone that owns a live data scan tool, they could check the actual speeds at each wheel. If one is different than the others, that is the likely cause. If you don't have access, you could check each sensor with a voltmeter or multimeter. Here is a link that explains how it is done:

Let me know if this helps you. Also, please feel free to let me know if you have other questions or if I can help in any way.

Take care,

Joe

Is that also caused by bad brake pads?

Bad brake pads can cause a grinding. If they have been bad for a long time, I've even seen them cut through the rotors and grind on the cooling fins.

If you look through the wheel, you should be able to see the brake rotor. The brake rotor should be smooth without cuts or grooves cut into it. (See pic 1 for what a rotor looks like).

Next, pic 2 shows brake pads. They are mounted in the brake caliper and press against the rotor to stop the vehicle. You can see them from different angles, but oftentimes the wheel needs to be removed.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

It can be difficult with the wheel on. Usually, you have to look at an angle. If you are still unable to see the pads, the wheel will need to be removed. I attached two pics below that may help. In pic 1, I circled the caliper. Pic 2 shows the brake pads after the caliper is removed.

Also, do the brake rotors appear to be damaged in any way?

Let me know.

Joe

Chances are the braking material is gone and you are touching the steel brake pad backing plate against the rotors. If you could send me a pic of the rotor, it may be helpful.

If we confirm the brakes and rotors need to be replaced, here is a link that explains how in general it is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-front-brake-pads-and-rotors-fwd

Again, if you can send a pic of both the front and rear of the rotor, I should be able to tell. Also, replacement isn't too hard. The link above is very helpful. Also, here is a video showing it being done on a Ford Focus which will be similar:

Let me know if this helps. Also, I'm here to help if you need anything.

Take care,

Joe

No problem. What I suggest (unless you feel the vehicle is unsafe) is to drive it to a parts store or repair shop and have them inspect the rotors and see what they tell you.

Let me know.
