The pick up runs for fifteen miles at 70 mph then makes noise with decrease speed at off ramp. Checked oil, very low with emulsified oil water at the dipstick. Oil was added, vehicle driven home (fifteen miles). Vehicle has not been used since. Note: vehicle is in North Dakota and exposed to temperature extremes.

Hello,

I'm glad to hear that the vehicle got you home. I am a Ford fan because of stories like this. It has been my experience that if you run a vehicle low on oil and you have a power drop off that is because the engine has just blown up. This happens because the main, rod, and camshaft bearing depend on oil they ride on a thin film of the lubricate themselves and keep from going metal to metal. When this happens the bearing wear off the soft metal surfaces, which are precision machined, heat up and distort, and cause friction, grinding the engine to a halt. Usually the camshaft bearings are the first to go because they are the furthest from the oil pump/sump. You might have saved the engine by adding oil. I would definitely change the oil and filter, paying special attention for metal shavings from your bearings in the oil. I have included a few links for you down below:
