2001 Volvo S40-Heater Fan stopped working, could be diode?

Hello-

I have a 2001 Volvo S40 60K miles. A couple weeks ago I got into my car and the air was on full blast despite what I set the control to. Everything still functioned perfectly, the fan was just on full blast. The fan did get slightly slower when I turned it "off" but it was still on, and blowing pretty loud. A couple days later the fan stopped blowing, and has never come back on. I still get hot and cold air if I am driving fast, but otherwise am pretty cold. Seat warmers, AC still works etc....just doesn't blow.

I was thinking that it was the fan that blew, but now looking online I see in 2001 there was a recall on my type of car, made in the month my car was on a diode in the electronic climate control system. I read online that it causes the heater fan to stop functioning, and affects the defrost function.

Do you think this is what could be wrong with my car? If so, do you think Volvo will still cover the cost of the repair? I didn't own the car in 2001, so I never heard of the recall.

Here is a link to the recall:

I was quoted to replace the fan (if that is what it is) that it would be $350 inlcuding labor. Am I getting ripped off?

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

I have been contacted by the dealership, and they told me the recalled diode was repaired June 2001 (before I owned the car).

Instead of thinking it is the fan that broke, they are now thinking that it could be the "In cabin tempature/fan sensor"

Does this sound possible?

This is what they want to charge for it:

$49-98 to diagnose
$70 for the part
$98 for one hour labor

Is that reasonable?

Thank you so much for your reponses, I really appreciate them!
