Intermittent Air Conditioner

1996 Volvo 850 GL Automatic - This vehicle has an automatic climate control. The AC blow very cold for about 1/2 hour, then cuts out. If I turn the AC switch off for a few minutes, it usually comes back on. If I accelerate, the AC cuts out and does not come back on.
