I wanted to replace the external fuel pump myself. Expecting to relieve fuel pressure, I pulled the fuse while the vehicle was running, instead of the fuel pressure regulator (dummy)! The new fuel pump was installed, and fuse put back in, but now the pump won't cut on. Since then, I tried replacing the fuel pressure regulator, thinking it might have been stuck in an open position, but the pump still won't cut on. I later tried replacing the computer with a used one, but again, the fuel pump still won't cut on. Any ideas? Could the internal fuel pump now be giving trouble? I used my test light, and there's no fire to the fuel pump!

Hi fromdabigapple,

Thank you for the donation.

The fuel pump, both external and in tank receives its power supply from Fuse # 4 in fuse box. Power supply is from Fuel system relay.

This type of fuse tends to lose contact if not properly seated. I would suggest getting a test lamp to test voltage at bothe ends.

Hello Docfixit!

I checked both fuses 4 and 6 with a test light. They both tested good. The fuel relay (under dash right side) "clicks" as though fully functional. Just in case the relay had been deceiving me, I replaced it too! But, the new fuel pump still won't cut on. WHAT DAMAGE COULD I HAVE CAUSED BY REMOVING THE #6 FUSE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING?

None I know of. The relay is a double pole so need to
see if rely to pump side works. Need test light or meter test at fuse #4 with key on should be hot. If no Fuel Inj. Computer is not pulling relay.
Let me know
