My mechanic just confermed that the valve has been stucked down cos the car has sat down for a long time. Does it need replacement or e just need to run d valve if he opens the top cylinder. Am asking all this questions because we don't have expert on car in where I stay in lagos. And pls is a 6 plug car better than a four plug car? How can I maintain a 6 plug car

Did he find low or no compression? If so, remove the valve cover and locate the valves that are sticking. Cover them with oil and gently tap on them to see if they release. They should.

When my mechanic opened the top cylinder he noticed 10 valves got bent so he removed the 2 cylinder and he said he will grand the cylinder and later fix it back that the car will work then, and he. Said the timing jumped aswell. Hope notin will happen to the cylinder if he grand it? And he said he will change the jasket too that if he uses the old one that the car might do over heating. That's all he said. What's your best advice or his he doing the right tin?

I agree that the gaskets need replaced. Additionally, since the timing has jumped, I recommend replacing the timing belt. That is what caused the problem in the first place.

If he is able to replace the valves and everything else in the head is in good condition, you should be fine.

At least we know why the engine was turning over so fast, no compression.

Thank you so much for being there all through. I will tell him all what you said. In nigeria we believe a four cylinder engine is better than a six cylinder engine. Is it true? And how can one manage a six cylinder engine. Can you also tell me the advantage and disadvantages of the both?

Honestly, one is as good as the other. As long as maintenance is done on them, they will both last you a long time.

A 6 cylinder, by nature, should have more power, but isn't any better or worse. Other than when it comes to fuel usage. A 6 will be likely to use more.

Let me know if you have other questions.

After changing the 6 valves the car is now working perfectly. But I noticed the check engine sign and Dynamic Stability Control Indicator or Electronic Stability Program on the dash board but the car sounds fine and move very fine. What can u say about the sign? Thanx for being there

I may not be a whole lot of help--i do not know your car well

i can only think of a few of things that might make you water milky

if you s. Uck out a sample and put it in a tall glass container (sorta like a test tube). Let it sit still for a while, undisturbed

if it is oil (crack or head gasket) or automatic transmission fluid (oil cooler inside radiator is leaking) it will rise to the top. You might be a able to determine which one it is by it's color

if it is air, the air will dissipate leaving the coolant--could be possible coolant being aerated by water pump---or head gasket leaking (combustion gasses)---a chemical test might confirm this

is it possible that water pump lubricant has been installed--(as I use in my jeeps) it turns the coolant milkythis would be normal, and nothing to worry about

as far as effects to the engine, i'd point the finger more toward the head gasket or a crack

only testing is going to narrow it down

Engine Mechanical problem 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 141000 miles

I live in Newark, NJ and own a 2000 passat V6. The past few days Ive had an intermittent problem thats gradually growing. The car won't start. It cranks strong but won't run. Does't seem to matter if the car was sitting overnight or 10 min. When it finally does start, there is no pause, it doesn't sputter, just starts right as if nothing was wrong. Car runs just fine. Anyone with advise on what steps to take to isolate this headache.

So far I've verified the spark and ruled out an ignition problem. I have noticed that the coolant temp gauge comes and goes. I don't think its the thermostat because the needle would be in the normal range and then just falls off. The coolant level is fine. I've done enough homework to know that the temp sensors tend to go in my particular make/model. I picked up a coolant temp sensor (8 bucks at autozone) but my hands are too big. The sensor location is just a tease. I can barely reach it let alone remove it. So I still have the problem with it cranking and not starting and I still have yet to change the sensor. Now I'm wondering if the temp problem is related. So now I ask. Could a faulty coolant temp sensor prevent a car from starting?

2000 Passat 2.8 V6, 141k

OK, heres the deal. The fuel pump seems to be working fine. I replaced the coolant sensor. I still have the problem. I'm detecting a weird pattern with it not starting. Starts up cold. No problem, 2 or 3 cranks the most. After 10 min of driving, when its nice and warmed up. Comes right back on with a few cranks or wont start at all. After 15 or 30 min on a warm day. It just cranks away but wont start. Ive read something about pressing the gas pedal to the floor to cut off the fuel injectors. I cant tell if that makes a difference. Ive already killed the battery just from cranking alone. I can either give it more time to cool off or roll it down the driveway. "Its a stick". I know popping the clutch isn't recommended but it works. I also feel like a slight hesitation or rather engine vibration when accelerating. It idles fine and the acceleration just inst a smooth as I think it should be. I also have Check engine light with the infamous "Emissions Workgroup". Could this be a timing issue? Valve deposits? Cam Speed sensor? No idea.I feel like I'm grasping at straws over here.

Heres another note. I went to Autozone to have them check my trouble codes. I have 2, P0322 (Ignition engine speed input signal no circuit) and P0441 (EVAP system incorrect purge flow). Im not sure how to handle this. Im still trying to get that to make sense.

Much appreciated,
Red

This sounds like you have a crankshaft angle sensor that needs to be replaced. Here is a guide to show you what you are in for when changing the sensor.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/crankshaft-angle-sensor-replacement

This cars had a problem with them

Here is the location for your sensor for your car (below)

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers,

And now when I try to start it, the tachometer bounces below idle and still wont start. So I took it to the dealer and they replaced the crankshaft sensor now the car runs.

Thanks

2000 Volkswagen Passat 4 cyl Automatic 115500 miles

Recently I discovered that when I tried to start my car it well, wouldn't. I recently put in a new battery and it was working fine, for several weeks and then nothing. The radio and the head lights are working, but the interior lights do not. I checked the fuse and it looked undamaged.

I believe it is the Ignition Coils. I had to replace the cylinder head gasket and as a result of it failing oil filled up the chambers that housed the spark plugs. So at that time I replaced all my spark plugs, but couldnt afford the ignition coils at the time. I also had the check engine light on and the shop mechanic said it was due to a miss fire of some sort. I'm 98% sure he said it was because 3 of the 4 ignition coils were not working properly, which would make sence because of the oil damage, and essentially it was just a matter of time before the final one failed.

So my question is, do you agree it is the ignition coils or do you think it could be something else, and how would I be able to check?

Hi jonnywhiteline,

Thank you for the donation.

When engine could not be started, there are various reasons and you need to verify what is missing to cause the problem.

Check the following link and see if you can come up with anything and let me know the results.

If the motor is turning over as normal but won't fire up, under the conditions you specified it sounds like my first guess would be fuel pump. Do you hear the fuel pump turning on when you turn the key to on?

If it's turning over and not starting, get it scanned. Most likely have an engine speed sensor fault. That or a relay issue.
