2000 Jetta, 105,000 miles, 2.0 liter engine. When turned to start, there is no indication of trying to start - starter doesn't engage, engine doesn't turn over. Battery is good, doesn't help to jump. Cables look good and well connected.

I read about the neutral switch in the console. What tips do you have for getting into the console?

What else should I check before removing the starter to have it checked? Would looking at the trouble codes help?

I've looked at the starter to remove it, but it doesn't have standard bolts to remove. Any tips?

First you need to test for 12 volts at the trigger wire at the starter (small wire). If it has it then the starter is probably bad. If not then go to the Neutral safety switch
