I have a 1986 jetta diesel that will not start after 5 days of cold weather -30 celsius. That car will turn over but seems to be draining the battery while cranking. Any suggestion would be great :(

The key to starting is to have a robust battery so that the engine can crank at the required speed. If you have glow plugs they require electricty as well.

If the car is outside in cold weather this thickens the oil as well and makes the engine crank slowly. An engine heater that heats the block or oil could be helpful.

Finally any water in the fuel system will prevent starting as well.
