2001 Volkswagen Jetta can u please help me?

Okay today my radio was blinking on and off especially the higher I turned it up then as I hit the gas once my rpms got around 3500rpms my car was bogging out and turbo wasn't kicking in I let my car sit about 20 minutes, then tried to start it and it wouldn't start so I bump started it and the lights were very dim and flashing epc and engine light was blinking then car quit on me about 2 miles down road got a jump start and it started but when I hit the gas no response at all and all the lights are very dim and if I use any power from lights or stereo it dies and the car won't start up again and I have a new battery and the fumes are real rich like gasoline. Does this sound like the alternator to you or a short in my wiring? Thank you very much
