I have a 1972 vw beetle and it just started to bog out and die when I slow down, what could be causing it? I checked the points, fuel filter, solenoid on the carburetor, and idle speed

Check to make sure the clutch is fully disengaged, and the car is in neutral when you are slowing down. If the car feels like it is still in gear then there is probably a problem with your clutch or gears. Check valve clearances just to be safe, my 73 stalled on me for months before I realized I forgot to have them adjusted.
