Transmission problem
1970 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I recently swapped my single port for a dual port. While the engine was out, I saw that most of the springs in the clutch disk were broken so I replaced the clutch disks. Though 4 of the 6 springs were broken, it performed fine. Now that the new disk is in, the clutch will not fully disengage. Can this be corrected by adjusting the clutch cable or do you have another suggestion?

Observe clutch throwout arm while a helper depresses pedal. If you see a lot of slack, take it up with the adjusting nut. If there's no slack, there's something wrong with the pressure plate and/or clutch disk.
