Can you hear the fuel pump run for about two seconds once you first turn the key to run, before you turn the key to start?
If not, check the fuel pump relay fuse.
It is the "fuel" fuse in the engine room fuse box, located under the hood, left side.
Also, there is a "eng" fuse for the other half of that fuel pump relay and it is located in the relay block, which is behind the right end of the dash.

Okay, no start even with ether, means there is no spark. Okay, do you have voltage at the ignition coils when the key is on run?
That would be the red wire I believe and if no voltage, check the "ENG" fuse in the relay block, which is behind the right end of the dash. (Hot with key on run/start).
That ENG fuse is fed from the ignition switch and before that the "IGN 1" fuse in the engine room fuse box, located under the hood, left side. (Hot all the time)

If you have fire and it still will not start with ether, then unless a timing belt or timing chain broke, you must have gas fouled spark plugs. Remove at least one spark plug and smell it for the strong smell of gasoline and if so you will have to remove them all and clean them off with some carburetor cleaner and allow them to dry or if they are old, just replace them all. Then try again to start.

Have you ever heard of if the main cable to the starter not getting twelve volts that would stop it from starting?

If that were true then the starter would not even crank over the engine.

Found the problem, it was a vapor lock issue, due to a gas cap issue.
