So my brother went to install a kill switch to the radio to get it to turn off as it wouldn't turn off at all. When the kill switch was installed the battery was disconnected so we reconnected it and now it displays unknown driver and the gauges are dead; no power locks or windows. The obd2 port wont work for a scanner but keep in mind the security light is not on. The truck will start but it will shut off immediately. Anyone know what is going on? We put the wires to the stereo back to what it was before it displayed unknown driver but still the truck is not registering the key or something. Were at a loss

Hi,

I have to be honest. I have only ever seen that one time. I'm adding my thoughts simply because I know you were working around the battery and that is where the problem was I dealt with.

I found that the PCM wiring harness was chafing against the battery tray. Since you were working around that area, check the harness to the PCM. Move it around and inspect it and see if moving the harness changes anything.

Let me know what you find.

No problem. And don't laugh, but if the vehicle has a power driver's seat and you were moving it around to work on the vehicle, check for wiring harness issues there as well. I found a technical service bulletin related to a "unknown driver' problem when the harness got damaged there as well.
