Truck shut off while driving will not start back up

My father in law's SUV shut down on him while driving, it won't start back up. Last night it did the same thing but this morning it started right up. We did it a couple times no problem. So he goes to test drive it and shut down in middle of road. I go tow him back home.I can hear fuel pump running no spark or fire at injectors. Don't have any meters just old school deductions. Please help he is driving me nuts!

Welcome to 2CarPros.

It sounds like a bad distributor ignition control module. It is located under the coil packs. I can't guarantee that is the problem, but they symptoms match.

I attached a picture of the component. You can remove it and have it tested at a parts store, but if it isn't hot, it will most likely test good.
