Hello, I have a question for you. I have a 1983 GMC S-15 small pickup with a 2.8L V6 engine. Automatic Transmission and A/C.

The problem I am having is, when you first start the truck up in the morning, the truck starts real good and runs good, but each time during the day that you shut the truck off even for a few minutes the truck gets harder and harder to start. By the fourth(4) time you shut the truck off you might just as well plan on waiting for about a hour before it will start again.

The following is what I have done trying to fix the problem. First I ran a cylinder wet & dry compression check.

The reading are – Cyl. #1 Dry 120 Wet 165 – Cyl. #2 Dry 130 Wet 150 – Cyl. #3 Dry 130 Wet 160 – Cyl. #4 Dry 130 Wet 160 – Cyl. #5 Dry 135 Wet 160 – Cyl. #6 Dry 130
Wet 180

I have replaced the Distributor, Distributor Cap, Spark Plugs Wires, Spark Plug, Starter and Battery. Have also replaced manifold exhaust pipes, muffle and tail pipes. Truck does not have a catalytic converter install.

After all of the above, I am still having the same problem, truck not starting after engine warms up. HELP PLEASE.

Thank You,
Bill Hewitt

I was told to check the crank sensor. I did both a online search on my engine and talked to a local garage. I was told that my little truck does not have a crank sensor install on the engine. Do you all have any other ideals what could be wrong? For this old of a truck (1983 Model)), there are very few sensors installed on the engine. Thank You for any help.

That has the varijet carb on it and with the age of the vehicle as well as the alcohol that has been in our fuels for along time now, your carb probably needs to be overhauled. You can also check fuel pressure and volume which should be 3-4 psi and about a 1/2 pint in 30 seconds.
