I have every gear but can only go about a mile an hour. What could be causing this problem?

Is the engine revving up and the truck will not move?

Is the engine not revving up?

Can you give me as much information as you can?

The motor revs up and I can shift through all gears but it barley moves in all gears. The transmission was rebuilt about eight months before this happened.

If the motor revs up and barely moves, it sounds like the transmission is not working.

Check the fluid level and condition. It may be the transmission that is failing.

I put fluid in it. Still does the same thing. My friends dad said it could be the torque converter but did not want to waste the money if that was not the problem. Is that a possibility?

Yes it could but if it is, you are removing the transmission and should replace all the clutches and seals as well. Basically an overhaul.

How hard is it to do the clutches? And do I need any specialty tools?

You would be doing a transmission rebuild.

Yes, you need a lot of special tools to perform this service.

Do you have a transmission stand?

No, I was hoping it would be a simple fix. Sounds like I might just have to take it to a shop.

I suggest this if you have never done a transmission before.

Hey, I was wondering if a transmission out of a Ford Explorer with the 4.0 v6 work in a Ford Ranger with the same motor? I do not have money to have it rebuilt and cannot find a Ranger transmission but found an Explorer one just did not know if they were compatible.
