All lights lit on instrument panel. Cruise control light does not go off and on with control switch on steering wheel. Replaced transmission, used transmission doing the same thing. Is there something electronic that can cause this condition?

Hi,

Absolutely, this is likely related to electronics. Chances are it is related to the transmission control module.

If all the lights are staying on, you really need to start by scanning the can-bus.
CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all computers and modules are tied together via a few wires and communicate with each other.

This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them. A basic scan tool won't do this.

Here is a link showing how it is done.

Also, you can reset the transmission control module, but it does require a scan tool that can communicate with it. I don't know if you have one or not. There was actually a technical service bulletin out indicating this needs done. I attached it below. However, I don't know if it would prevent shifting altogether. Take a look through it.

Let me know.

Joe

Thank you for the prompt and concise reply. "There was actually a technical service bulletin out indicating this needs to be done." Was this a recall notice? This issue came on suddenly with no slippage or hard shifting that's why I assumed electrical. Mechanic, I took it to sad it was the transmission. I don't doubt him until the problem reoccurred with the used transmission.

Hi,

This was only a technical service bulletin. Is there someone that you know that can try the reset? Also, how long did the new transmission work?

Let me know.

Try the reset and see if things work properly again. If they do, then it's not the transmission but something electrical. Let me know what you find. I'm interested in knowing.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you. The car is shifting like it should now, but for how long? I have a feeling I will try the reset soon.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear that, and you are very welcome. As far as how long it will remain working, that is a tough question. It may fail again, or it may never happen again. However, if it does happen again, there should be diagnostic trouble codes stored. So that is the first thing which should be checked.

Let's just hope it never happens again and it simply needs to be reset.

Let me know if you need anything. Also, please feel free to come back anytime in the future if you have questions. You are always welcome here.

Take care,

Joe
