Hello,
I am having problems getting my truck started. I have to push on the gas peddle several times as I am trying to start it. It smells like it is getting to much fuel and possibly flooding, but I have to push on the gas several times as I am trying to start it in order to get it to start. I wasn't sure if there is something easy that I should adjust or check. I used to be able to push the gas peddle once and then turn the key over and it would start. I am wondering if the mixture screw on the Carb. Needs adjusting. I have it 2 turn out from tight. Should I try adjusting that? If so, should I go out or back in with it? Also, when I push the gas down to the floor out on the road it stalls out and cuts out. Please help if at all possible. Thanks for your service.

Check the fuel pressure and fast idle adjustment-sounds like the choke is not opening properly

Hello,
Thanks for the help. Is there a way that you could explain how to check the fast idle adjustment? I am not sure how to check it. I think it has something to do with the choke also but not sure what to check or adjust. Also something else it done today. I would adjust the idle sitting in the garage and then took it on a drive and when I drove it for a while and pushed the clutched in to slow down and turn it died on me. I had to really turn the idle up to get it going again. Thanks! Rich

Sir-You need a repair manual. You need to set the fast idle cam on the 2nd step and adjust the choke opening per manual at which time start the vehicle it should be running about 1200rpms if not raise the rpm by using the fast idle screw. When the fast idle gradually drops to base idle if not adjust the idle speed screw to the curb idle speed. Also check the EGR and PCV valves.
