I just got done doing an engine swap from a 1978 toyota 2wd truck into my 1987 toyota 2wd truck and the starter only kicks on when its bolted in with one of 2 bolts and it wont catch the fly wheel.

Do you mean the starter operates and engages the flywheel with only one bolt. Be specifc I'm lil bit confused here-Could be the wrong flywheel or starter

No the starter gets power but doesnt turn the flywheel for some reason, its the correct flywheel and starter it just doesnt seem to work all the time. Also when I turn the key the wires coming from the coil get pretty warm and start smoking.
