I was driving my friends car and I heard a knock in the engine I immediately pulled over and made it o the nearest gas station. I checked the oil and realized it was in need of some. I filled it with oil and the noise diminished, I thought it was gone but it came back and was even more intense until the car stalled and began to smoke. Now it will not idle without dying and it the rattle is now a repeating bang with a grind. What is the problem and is it easily fixable or worth the time at all. If so, what is the price range of a repair of this magnitude. Please help.

Yes you either spun a rod/main bearing or chewed one up real good.

Get a used engine from a 90-92 Toyota Corolla/Geo Prizm. Make sure to tell salvage yard the eight digit of VIN, either a "6" or a "5".
