1989 Toyota Corolla Tail lights

When I turn off the car the tail lights stay on so I have to disconnect the battery all the time.

If it is the brake lights the the brake switch attached to the brake pedal arm is bad.
If tail lights, then the switch on the stalk is bad.

I was wondering about the switch. Thank you for the input. I just found this sight and it is a God send as things have been very tight and we can't afford to guess of fixes wasting money. I also respect the donations and will also participate as soon as possible as I am a home car repair guy and can always use good direction. Tends to save several evenings and many dinged up knuckles. Lol Thanks again.
