Engine Performance problem
1989 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl

Hi I have a 1989 toyota that is usually really really good. As of today it just started suddenly driving really bad, especially up hill and in 3rd gear. It shudders like it not engaging properly and as tho petrol isnt getting through. The revs and the idle is fine tho. A friend said its probabley plugs or leads so if someone could help me would be much appreicated:D

Hi there,

start with a full tune up, including fuel filter, and do a scan if it is an EFI engine, start here,

I did leave the oil cap off and didnt notice for a few days, I hadnt driven much and oil never ran out before I noticed, yet the porblem started as soon as I got replacement cap. Could this be a coincedence or is there a possibility ive wrecked the engine? Sorry im a car novice. It does feel like spark plugs and leads type problem so will get tune up just hoping I havent wrecked car:(

Running the engine without the oil cap can run the engine low, or out of oil.
The engine produces a lot of oil pressure and it will blow it out the oil cap hole.

Refill with oil and do as Mark said with tuneup, hope for the best.
