My engine light came on and is blinking while it is on. I stopped at a Mechanics garage and he said it smells like rotten eggs and my catalytic converter is bad. Is this true and how much will it cost to repair? Any help you can give will be appreciated since I am a female and know nothing about car repairs.

This depends on the codes, but the signs are there, and it seems like he may be correct.

This means we need to start with getting the codes and making sure they are pointing to an exhaust issue.

Also, if this is the case then we need to test the converter so here is a guide that will help with this:

If this proves out to be the issue, then this guide will help with replacing it:

Please find the info from the manual that will show the connection points and torque specs to get it replaced.

Based on this info I think they are correct but running through this info should help confirm this.
