When first starting, the Camry runs at a fast idle as expected, but when you put it in drive, it hesitates and stumbles. However if you keep on the accelerator, in a few seconds it takes off and runs just fine.

No check engine light comes on, and no codes have been posted. (I bought an actron CP9180 to test this problem.)

Fuel filter replaced at 135, 782
Plugs and wires replaced at 135, 915
Air filter at 152,000

I sprayed some Gumout into the throttle body but no difference on the next day's starting.

Do you think it may be one of the temp sensors not registering it as being cold?

==> I checked the intake air temp sensor and it showed 1900 ohms, and the air temp is now 80 F so that seems ok. (According to a table in the Haynes manual)

The engine coolant sensor was 1600 ohms, which seems a little low, I will check it in the morning and see if it has more resistance then.

I'm not sure if your scanner reads data. If it does then you need to look at Coolant temp, fuel trims, and post them. Need to see idle and 2500rpm.

Key on but not started, coolant was 82F

After it got off fast idle, I saw the following information:
822 RPM
ST FTRM1 was.8
LT FTRM1 was 3.9
coolant 185 F

At approx 2500 RPM (as best I could keep it near there)
ST FTRM1 varied, 0, .8, -1.0
LT FTRM1 was 5.4

Was this in park or in drive. Need to brake torque for the 2500. Does is buck and chuck when you try to brake torque?

It was in park. Since this only seems to happen on a cold start should I wait till the morning to try it in drive with the brake on? Would 2500 RPM in drive with the brake on cause any transmission problems? (I haven't done any torque tests like that since the old days with V8's :-)

Since it only does it cold I would wait till it cools downs to do it. You need the problem to happen and look at your fuel trims and write it down. Wait a second or two to right it so the scanner can get the right data. Brake torque for at max for 10 seconds. So I want to get this straight. This only happens when it is cold? It is ok at idle? But when you step on the gas to go(could brake torque to duplicate) then it wants to buck and chuck but then after a few seconds it goes? After it warms up it is fine? No codes?

It only happens when first starting after overnight, it seems to fast idle ok, but when you put it in drive, it hesitates, seems like it will stall, but then after just a few seconds, it takes off and then runs just fine. No codes/check engine light.

The brake torque test in the morning produced the same effect, it stumbled. If this was an old car I would believe the choke is not working or sticks when cold. :-) Here is my frame data, I did not get it to 2500 since it was stumbling:

How long did it stumble before it was running fine? After it is warmed up, does it run fine after that? Are you missing any coolant?

10 or 15 seconds at the most, then it runs just fine. The coolant is fine.

I am going to have the Toyota dealer look at it on Tuesday. I will post here if they figure it out.

The dealer said it is probably the idle air control valve but since it didn't act up for them they didn't want to assume that was the problem. They said the best thing to do is leave with them overnight when it will be a cold morning and they can test out the IAC. They can issue commands to it to see if it is operating when it is cold, etc.

They said that the IAC may not post a code even if there is a problem.
