1998 Toyota Camry Gas tank overflow

Today I went to fill the gas at BP gas station. For some reason the pump did not stop when my tank was full. This problem I have been noticing with my vehicle for some time. Some times the pumping stops before the tank is full. But this is the first time it did not stop even after the tank is full. This might a problem for which you may or may not have a cheaper solution. But today I have bigger issue. That is after the overflow when I started driving my car, I noticed a noise coming from my rear right hand side tire. Some kind of object rubbing against the rotation of tires in the back. When I stopped after couple of miles I realized the burning smell coming from back side. I drove another 2 miles to my home and sending you this question now. When I reached home I noticed the burning smell again. When I touched the tire on the rear right side I noticed that there is metalic object sticking onto the tire from the top. But I thought break is on the center of the rotation at the drum/disk. Not sure what that object is? If you want I can check more with flash light and tell you. Not sure what is happening. Not sure if I can drive to the mechanic who is 1 mile away from my home. Pls advise me. If you have any questions pls ask before you are clear with problem so you`can answer for my specific situation. I apprciate your help. Thanks alot.
