1993 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 210000 miles
The oil pressure light came on, oil added yet the light remained on. Per my "trusted" mechanic, the oil pump failed, my engine was "gunked" up and I needed a new engine, yet I could still drive it for a couple of weeks.
While a friend was changing out the oil pump, he found the oil pan gasket was totally worn out (after being replaced 10 months ago) and the bolts on the oil pan were removed by hand. Very loose.
With a new oil pump, oil pan gasket and filled with 10W-30 oil, the light now flickers when the car is driven. There is no knocking sound and no oil leaking.
